Rio de Klin
Klin is becoming known in Slovakia and abroad thanks to the faithful statue of Christ. The statue of Christ in Klinsk is a copy of the one in Rio, only it has smaller dimensions (9m height and 7m arms span). Work on the monument began in 2007 by the hands of folk carver Petr Ganobjak.
The resulting work stretches its arms over Orava 686 meters above sea level. A statue of Pope John Paul II bows before her. in larger-than-life size, which was added in 2009. The Way of the Cross lines the wall under the statue. It also includes the Divine Mercy Chapel. With a charming view of the Orava hills and the dam, it is the best place to relax. Benches and lots of flowers and bushes encourage you to stop, pray and relax.
Orava Castle
One of the biggest tourist attractions in northern Slovakia is Orava Castle, built on a rock above the Orava River in Orava Podzámek as an “eagle’s nest”. The castle began to be built on the site of an old wooden castle after the Tatar invasion in 1241. The originally small fortress from the 13th century developed over the course of the following centuries into an extensive castle area, which today has 154 rooms. In the past, it was the county castle and seat of the Orava Castle Manor.
